Kate will return to Saatchi Gallery, Chelsea (London) during Frieze week October 11th to the15th, 2023, for the10th anniversary of the international StART art fair. To preview online the show catalogue (which will go live 5 October 2023) please click here.
Founded by renowned art collectors and philanthropists Serenlla and David Ciclitira, and developed in close partnership with the curatorial team at Saatchi Gallery, StART is unique in the UK art world calendar. StART showcases exciting living artists from both the East and West into one dynamic fair over multiple floors at the iconic Saatchi Gallery.
On show will be Kate's newest body of work, including paintings, wood pieces and large scale textile and sculptural works made in collaboration with other artists in London (Emmerly Elgersma) and The Netherlands (Olha Yohansen-Veselova). Kate will also debut the 'Storyteller' arthouse limited edition publications, created as accessible works for new collectors.
Works will range in size from miniatures to over one metre, and in light of the StART ethos of vibrant contrasts, Kate will show both her expressive abstract landscapes alongside her symbol-laden colour field works.
If you would like to attend StART as Kate's guest including attending the PV or a special collector's event, please contact her team at this address for complimentary tickets information.
SOTA E20 Lab Show: 10-15th October 2023
Kate will also show a new small-scale new work across town in the first ever SOTA exhibition at The Lab E20: a newly developed major co-creative hub in Victory Plaza, Stratford. The SOTA exhibition will have daily events encompassing a wide variety of interests in the arts.
Kate's work will be shown along with100 other artists' works, selected by curatorial team David Etherton (of Christie's) and SOTA founder Emma Lang. In line with the ethos of SOTA - aimed at democratising art and bringing up a generation of new collectors from all walks of life - Kate has one work in the SOTA show at a very special price.
As Kate will also be showing at Saatchi Gallery that same week (see above) she will be at SOTA on the opening evening only (10th October). To avoid disappointment please do click on this link to obtain complimentary tickets to SOTA for the opening evening and any exhibition day/event.
]]>Following on after the show Kate will be taking some time out of London as a guest residential lecturer at Coombe Farms Studios in Devon (Totnes) in intuitive abstract painting. This is the second year of Kate's residency at this beautiful and well regarded centre, and the only tutoring Kate undertakes each year.
Below: photos from Kate's prior courses at Coombe Farm Studios. The Gallery at Coombe Farm holds a number of Kate's original works as well, which can be viewed here.
Part of ancient Britain's fabric, a place of long vistas, lush colour, storytelling and incredible history, the Wiltshire countryside resonates with many of the themes and structures of Kate's own work. A kind of universality of place and emotion makes this a happy meeting. Please contact White Chalk Gallery for all enquiries regarding Kate's work on show there now.

Courses in Abstract Painting: March & July in Devon, England at Coombe Farm Studios
Kate's first three day intuitive abstract painting residential course at Coombe Farm Studios in Devon this March was enriching and exciting and Kate is looking forward to her longer five day residential course there in early July.
Many thanks to Coombe Farm Studios director Lara Lloyd who initially approached Kate about presenting a course and making it happen so effortlessly. The beautiful location, fresh delicious meals from their very talented chef, simple and restful accommodations in sensitively restored atmospheric stone barns, as well as the camaraderie that grows during the course all combine to create a very special and immersive experience.
The courses Kate is presenting at Coombe Farm Studios are structured, with live demos, participants' making studies and then moving onto larger more complex paintings.
AAF New York Show: New Collection of Works with After Nyne Contemporary
In March in New York, Kate's newest body of work will debut with After Nyne Contemporary at the AAF New York show. If you are unable to attend the show you can still view and acquire Kate's works via the gallery.
Finally, thank you to those who have supported recent arts initiatives in solidarity with the people of Ukraine. With your help, Kate and thousands of artists and galleries around the globe are adding to the humanitarian aid so desperately needed via sending artworks to collectors who make contributions to humanitarian organisations working in Ukraine. If you are interested in supporting these initiatives, a good place to look is on Instagram using the hashtag #ukrainesupportpledge by Matthew Burrows' amazing @artistsupportpledge platform supporting artists throughout the pandemic - and now also Ukraine.

All shows Kate was to participate in here and abroad have now been cancelled for this Autumn and early Winter due to the pandemic and its ongoing severe effect in the United Kingdom and elsewhere in Europe and the United States. The London-based gallery which currently represents her, After Nyne, has not yet re-opened in 'real life' and will not do so in 2020.
However, Kate's work will continue to be be shown online in 2020 in partnership with After Nyne in a variety of online solo and group shows, which can be found by getting in touch with After Nyne or by following Kate on Instagram.
In addition, Kate will continue to offer Artist Support Pledge (ASP) small works from time to time on Instagram and on her website at least until the end of 2020 and likely into 2021. Kate has been overwhelmed with the reaction to these smaller works, all of which have been sold within hours of their availability. Enormous congratulations are in order for Matthew Burrows, founder of the Artist Support Pledge platform, on being awarded a well merited MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) by the British Prime Minister in October 2020, for his contribution to the arts and artists with this initiative. ASP has now generated over £60 million in direct sales for artists worldwide since its inception in only March 2020. This platform encourages artists to offer smaller works directly to collectors online, and in return for artists to invest in other artists' works, creating a positive and transparent arts cycle that is healthy and self-sustaining.
With prior arrangement, limited (socially distant and masked) studio visits are currently possible for UK based collectors seeking larger works by Kate. A number of her works have been sold to collectors these past 6 months through the studio, and via online sales at After Nyne, AAF, 1st Dibs, Artsy.net and Saatchi Art as well as via collector commissions in London.
Kate has been very fortunate also to have been awarded several arts grants in this period, with enormous thanks to Collage Arts, the Haringey Borough Council's Regeneration Team, and the London Mayor's Council for the Arts for this vital support. The grants have allowed her to retain her studio despite exhibition cancellations and lengthy periods when, due to the pandemic, she is not able to access to the studio to work.
In a new effort, working in collaboration with James Stewart, Kate is co-curating an online Open Call this Autumn "You Are Here" via @katmapped on Instagram. The aim of this Open Call is to bring more artists together for collaborations and to amplify their work in these isolated times. This is an effort by artists for artists. If successful further Open Calls will occur in 2021.
Thank you once again to all the collectors and organisations who have made the past six months viable for Kate and other artists working in this time period. The dichotomy of the arts being brought to their knees by extensive lockdowns and patchy governmental approaches to the pandemic versus collectors' impacts on artists' livelihoods --by purchasing works from living artists in record numbers -- has been intense, and deeply humbling.
Dum anima est, spes est. - KAT

In lieu of shows until further notice, Kate is participating in the #artistsupportpledge on Instagram.
Under this simple programme, Kate is offering for a limited time the new small works she is making from her home studio at the pledge price; and for every £1000 in sales Kate herself makes, she is investing 20% of that into another artist's work.
#Artistsupportpledge is a worldwide movement to bring some stability to artists' livelihoods during this period, as well as transparency and more meaningful relationships to collectors. It was started by a single artist in Sussex, England, Matthew Burrows, and is based on a mentality of generosity and giving back, a cycle that is positive and meaningful on multiple levels.
The #artistsupportpledge has become a worldwide movement and has generated over £60 million in arts sales globally, directly to artists and makers, since its inception in mid March 2020.
To learn more please follow the tag #artistsupportpledge on Instagram, or to see Kate's specific works as they are released as part of this project please go to her Instagram account.
Many of Kate's paintings that are over 30cm in dimension remain available for acquisition through the London-based gallery which represents Kate, After Nyne Contemporary, as well as on Artsy.net, 1stDibs, AAFOnline and Saatchi Online. Although operating with minimal personnel, to ensure the safety of all, artworks may be purchased through any of these avenues.

"Things have changed, we are faced with a common enemy -- impartial, unfeeling and of immeasurable magnitude -- and it is no longer time for abstractions....Now is a time to listen to those in more informed positions. We should be careful about the noises we make -- especially those with a public voice -- and should not pretend to know what we do not."

London-based gallery After Nyne Contemporary will present Kate's new body of work "Serie di Finestre" in a solo showcase at the 21st annual AAF Battersea Park, 12-15 March 2020, only.
This series is directly influenced by Kate's former home, Italy, currently in the throes of a difficult health crisis which is soon to be part of our lives also. 'Finestre' means windows in the Italian language. There are metaphorical as well as structural elements underpinning the 'why' in these paintings.
The works may be viewed and purchased online after the show at After Nyne Contemporary's website.
Kate will not be participating in any further shows this Spring into Summer, and will not be in her studio until further notice. "From you I have been been absent in the Spring'. - Sonnet 98, WS.

Thank you to all who supported the CRIS Cancer Foundation gala ball and silent auction, held on Park Lane in Mayfair at Grosvenor's House on 16th November. Kate donated the painting "From The Other Side" shown here. Listed with a reserve at its gallery price, the work was bid on by multiple parties at the event: the final hammer came down at £2800 on the winning bid, four times the reserve. Overall CRIS raised approximately £800,000, the highest figure they have raised to date.

Following exhibitions in Los Angeles and New York, Kate is delighted to announce her London representation by AfterNyne Gallery of Holland Park.
The Private View for her solo show of new works "Desire Lines" was on Thursday, the 25th of April. Kate's time working and living in Northern Italy has greatly affected her work and renowned bio-dynamic vintner Enrico Rivetto gifted some of his exciting Piedmont wines to try at the opening, arranged thanks to the ever gracious Amy Marcelle Bellotti of Castello Grinzane Cavour. Kate is so grateful for their generous support of her work and to AfterNyne for showing her newest works in their fantastic gallery.
If you did not make the opening, the show will continue at AfterNyne Gallery until the 11th of May. It is a great opportunity to see the works as a series in a beautiful and modern space.
From 8 May some of these works will be shown at the AAF on Hampstead Heath where Kate will be represented by Skylark Galleries.

Following on the The Other Art Fair - Los Angeles in March 2018, Kate is now working with Skylark 2 Gallery at Oxo Tower located on the River Thames at London's Southbank between Tate Modern and the London Eye.
A selection of Kate's pieces will be on display at Skylark 2 from May 1. This will be an ongoing collaboration with Skylark 2, an artist-owned and managed collective: it will give Kate the opportunity to interact directly with clients on a one-on-one basis on certain dates.
Kate's partnership with Lamberty Gallery for her large scale abstracts is also ongoing.
Showing her work with these diverse London-based galleries gives Kate a great opportunity to showcase a spectrum of her work throughout the year; please contact either gallery for more information.
Kate was also recently selected by the Saatchi Art committee to exhibit her work at the inaugural The Other Art Fair in Los Angeles. Previous Saatchi shows have been held in Sydney, London and New York. This exhibition will be held downtown at the glamorous and atmospheric (quite likely haunted!) Majestic Downtown. Saatchi Art is headquartered in Los Angeles -- so this promises to be vibrant, high energy and quality showcase.
In April Kate will also participate as one of the selected artists in Roy's People Art Fair at the Bargehouse-OXO Tower near the Tate Modern on London's beautiful and lively Southbank.

Frieze Magazine recently published an article exploring the question of "why paint", when technology has made creating incredible digital images easier than ever before. But as painter Ellen Altfest remarked "painting is a handmade process built over time and has a physical presence....There is a kind of alchemy that happens when the visual information moves from the eye or mind to the brush....Painting both represents the world and creates its own world."

Of particular note: a solo exhibition 'The Storyteller' of smaller figurative works at the lovely Bertaina Osteria here in Northern Italy. It's warm red walls are the perfect foil for both the very cold weather and the pictures themselves. Several of these works are now sold; more information about the show can be found here. The remaining works and some new ones will be re-hung for a continuation of this show in late Spring.
The bijoux dimensions of the Bertaina mean that larger works need different homes. One, 'Spin' (90cm x 90cm) is currently on loan to La Contrada Nascosta, a new restaurant that requested this piece as part of their own recent inauguration.
Kate was also delighted to accept the request of a new restaurant inside a beautiful castle to license a detail from the large work 'Strata' for their gift certificates, as well as to display this piece in one of their private dining rooms. Details about this historic locale to come.
In the realm of the online world, in recent months Kate has been featured on various social photography sites, including by Grryo, a beautifully curated and engaging platform for photographers who tell a story.

Now at work on a series of new pieces, including a frieze-like wall panel on commission. Also experimenting with some figurative pieces in a smaller square format on canvas, and continuing graphics projects for selected clients.
Below a few details from some of the larger pieces currently in process.

Kate will be participating in the group show "Olfatto - Immagini del sentire", curated by the enormously talented, fantastically energetic and lovely (inside and out) Cinzia Ghigliano.
Cinzia is known throughout Italy and internationally for her beautiful illustrations, graphic novels and paintings. This show is more 'figurative' in style, and so I will be showing pieces from my recent 'Street Dreams' series, rather than the large scale abstracts (currently on display at another location).
This is a special exhibition, which is sponsored by several diverse organizations - including the Slow Food chapter for our region, for a number of reasons. The opening evening was a great success; a short video clip of that night can be found here.
Below is a short video clip highlighting recent smaller works, some of which will be on display during the exhibition. The music used in this clip is by the wonderful Ludovico Einaudi.

“At no other time (than autumn) does the earth let itself be inhaled in one smell, the ripe earth; in a smell that is in no way inferior to the smell of the sea, bitter where it borders on taste, and more honeysweet where you feel it touching the first sounds. Containing depth within itself....”
- Rainer Maria Rilke
The 'seasonal urge' is strong in just about anyone who creates - with words, pictures, sound, food.... It is difficult to ignore the changing of seasons and all that implies, especially as we humans are such slaves to time.
The Fall is always a busy time for Kate; one fun freelance assignment was a recent fashion shoot at a mellow old Italian villa among the grapes just as they were being harvested. Great fun and a real stretch for Kate, working with several models simultaneously.
The other news is mostly of an upcoming nature..a couple of Kate's new figurative pictures shown here will be part of the 'Pecati di Gola' festival in November. And for the moment Kate's larger abstract works are back from the sea and are now hanging in a new show, and very happily.
Kate was thrilled with the beautiful salon proposed for displaying her works. The fair had an overall attendance of over 24,000; other photographers' works were on display too, another one of the 'new initiatives' undertaken to make the fair more widely appealing this year. The owners of the palazzo where the photographic and other works were displayed were so pleased with the overall exhibitions put on there that they have decided to extend those exhibits another two weeks (until 26 August).

slanciarsi verso i campi luminosi e sereni;
colui i cui pensieri, come allodole,
saettano liberamente verso il cielo del mattino;
colui che vola sulla vita e comprende agevolmente
il linguaggio dei fiori e delle cose mute.
(Charles Baudelaire)
(thank you to B.F. for this reference)...some phrases you cannot translate literally. . . but what is poetry if it is not 'figurative'?! Onward and upward to the spring, and all that it brings . . . .)

Kate is moving into abstracts and surreal themes this Spring. This piece will be mixed media on canvas. 80cm x 80cm. She has several other works-in-progress following this idea combined with pictures taken outside this Spring and last year. A new tangent and quite different from her previous work.
